Dubai prepares to launch a new urban transport system

Dubai has taken another step towards launching commercial air taxi services. The first vertiport, designed to serve electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, has received official certification from regulatory authorities.

The new VDX facility is located next to Dubai International Airport and will be a central element of the emirate's future air transport network. Once fully operational, the vertiport will be able to serve up to 170,000 passengers annually.

The first commercial air taxi flights in Dubai are expected to commence before the end of this year.

The world's first certified vertiport

The new facility covers an area of approximately 3,100 square meters. Its infrastructure includes two pads for the vertical take-off and landing of new-generation aircraft.

The vertiport has been certified by the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and Skyports Infrastructure, confirming its compliance with the requirements for eVTOL aircraft operations.

In parallel, the development of a network of similar facilities continues in other areas of the city. Construction is currently underway for a vertiport in Dubai Marina, as well as pads near Dubai Mall and Palm Jumeirah in collaboration with the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

Certification confirmed adherence to international requirements

Prior to issuing the permit, specialists conducted a comprehensive inspection of the facility.

The assessment included:

  • infrastructure condition;
  • operational process organization;
  • safety management systems;
  • emergency preparedness;
  • compliance with current aviation regulations.

The certification confirms the facility's readiness for the further integration of the new transport system, while maintaining high safety standards.

A new era in aviation development

GCAA Director General Saif Al Suwaidi noted that the certification of the first vertiport marks a significant milestone for the future of aviation.

According to him, this step reflects the consistent development of the national regulatory system and the UAE's ability to implement innovative transport solutions while maintaining strict flight safety requirements.

It was also noted that the country continues to shape international standards in the field of advanced air mobility.

The UAE continues to develop air taxi infrastructure

The development of the new transport network is not limited to Dubai.

Earlier, Abu Dhabi authorities announced the creation of a network of ten vertiports, which will be used to service air taxis and other electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.

The first key facilities will include:

  • Sheikh Zayed International Airport;
  • Al Bateen Executive Airport.

Additional sites and inter-city routes will be unveiled as the program progresses.

Air Mobility Becomes Part of Dubai's Transport Strategy

The creation of a vertiport network is part of the emirate's long-term strategy for developing modern forms of public transport.

The use of eVTOL technologies will expand transport infrastructure, enhance resident mobility, and offer new travel options between key areas of the city.

The development of such projects confirms Dubai's commitment to implementing innovative solutions that could eventually become a vital part of the city's transport system.

What This Means for Dubai's Real Estate Market

The development of modern transport infrastructure traditionally has a positive impact on a city's attractiveness for residents, businesses, and international investors.

The emergence of an air taxi network complements Dubai's existing transport system, which includes the metro, tram, buses, marine transport, and a well-developed road network. Improved transport accessibility to key areas enhances living comfort and supports the long-term appeal of urban real estate.

For investors, such infrastructure projects are an indicator of the emirate's sustainable development and confirm Dubai's commitment to creating a high-tech, future-oriented urban environment.
