Emirates Global Aluminium launched the country's largest recycled aluminium production facility

In the United Arab Emirates, the country's largest aluminium recycling plant has been officially commissioned. The new Al Taweelah Recycling Plant, owned by Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), marks a significant milestone in the development of the country's industrial sector and the implementation of its sustainable production strategy.

The project aims to expand aluminium scrap recycling within the UAE, reduce natural resource consumption, and strengthen the country's position in the circular economy.

A New Stage in UAE Industrial Development

Production of recycled aluminium at the facility began in February, and after the completion of all commissioning works, the plant was officially put into operation.

The plant's ramp-up to full capacity will occur gradually over the coming months and will depend on the volume of incoming aluminium feedstock for recycling.

The opening ceremony was attended by UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, Dr. Amna Al Dahak. According to her, the launch of the new facility contributes to the development of environmentally-oriented industry and aligns with the government's policy on efficient resource utilization.

The Minister noted that aluminium recycling is one of the key directions for the development of the country's circular economy and significantly reduces energy consumption and the volume of industrial waste.

Aluminium Recycling Requires Significantly Less Energy

According to the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, recycling aluminium feedstock requires up to 95% less energy compared to producing primary aluminium from bauxite.

This approach allows for:

  • significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions;
  • more efficient use of natural resources;
  • reducing the amount of industrial waste;
  • supporting the development of sustainable production.

UAE authorities view the aluminium industry as one of the priority areas for transitioning to a greener model of industrial development.

Production Capacity to Reach 185 Thousand Tonnes Per Year

The Al Taweelah Recycling Plant is capable of processing up to 185 thousand tonnes of aluminium scrap annually.

The facility processes both post-consumer aluminium and a portion of production waste. The plant produces premium quality low-carbon aluminium billets and T-ingots under the RevivAL brand.

In addition, Emirates Global Aluminium produces combined aluminium alloys by blending recycled metal with primary aluminium produced using renewable and low-carbon energy sources. Such products are marketed under the CelestiAL-R and MinimAL-R brands.

Large-scale industrial project

Construction of the plant began in November 2023.

Approximately four million man-hours of construction work were completed during the project's implementation.

Construction involved:

  • over 26,300 cubic meters of concrete;
  • more than 4,600 tons of steel structures.

The new complex has become one of the largest industrial facilities implemented by Emirates Global Aluminium in recent years.

Added value will remain within the country's economy

Before the launch of the new facility, a significant portion of aluminum scrap generated in the UAE was sent abroad for further processing.

Now, most of this raw material can be processed domestically, which will increase local added value, support the development of industrial production, and create additional opportunities for the national economy.

According to Abdulnasser bin Kalban, CEO of Emirates Global Aluminium, the facility opens a new business direction for the company and aligns with the government initiatives Make it in the Emirates and the industrial strategy Operation 300bn.

He emphasized that the plant allows aluminum waste generated in the UAE and other countries to be transformed into new, in-demand products for the global market.

What the launch of the new plant means for the UAE economy

The launch of the country's largest aluminum recycling facility reflects the UAE's commitment to developing modern industry, improving resource efficiency, and expanding production capacities.

The development of the recycling industry contributes to economic diversification, reduces reliance on imported processed products, and strengthens the country's position as a leading global industrial hub.

For the UAE economy, such projects mean not only growth in industrial production but also the creation of new jobs, technological development, and increased investment attractiveness for the state.

Summary

The commissioning of the Al Taweelah Recycling Plant marks a significant milestone for the UAE's industrial sector. With a capacity of 185,000 tons of recycled aluminum per year, the facility will boost domestic raw material processing, support the development of a circular economy, and strengthen the country's position in sustainable industrial production.

The new production capacities underscore the UAE's consistent strategy for developing high-tech industry, implementing eco-friendly solutions, and building a modern economy focused on long-term growth.
