Dubai continues to develop the Dubai Loop project, a high-speed underground transport system. Parsons was involved in the work and will participate in the design and implementation of the tunnel network.

What is Dubai Loop

Dubai Loop is an underground transportation project that is being implemented in collaboration with Elon Musk's The Boring Company.

The main parameters of the project:

  • length: 22 km
  • number of stations: 19
  • transport: autonomous electric vehicles
  • tunnel diameter: about 3.6 m

The system will become an alternative to land transport and should reduce the load on roads.

A new phase of the project

Parsons has been awarded a contract for 9 months for:

  • design support
  • construction support
  • ensuring compliance with local standards

The company already has experience in implementing complex infrastructure projects in the region.

What routes will appear

The first phase will connect key points of the city:

  • DIFC
  • Dubai Mall
  • Burj Khalifa
  • Zabeel
  • ICD Brookfield Place

Travel time

The system is expected to significantly reduce travel:

  • DIFC → Dubai Mall: 20 minutes to ~3 minutes

How the system will work

  • passengers will be able to book trips through the app
  • transport — autonomous electric vehicles (including Tesla)
  • traffic will take place through underground tunnels

Cost and launch

  • the cost of the first phase: about Dh565 million
  • construction commencement: expected soon

Why this is important

The project is aimed at:

  • reducing traffic congestion
  • development of alternative transport
  • introduction of new technologies into urban infrastructure

The experience of similar projects

A similar system is already operating in the US, in Las Vegas, where it connects the exhibition center to the airport.

The result

Dubai Loop is another experiment in urban transport development. The project is still under implementation, but it is already clear that it will become part of a broader mobility system that is gradually changing towards automation and new forms of transportation.
