One of the largest road projects in recent years has launched in Dubai

Dubai authorities have begun work on a massive infrastructure project worth 2 billion dirhams (approximately 544 million US dollars) aimed at developing the emirate's transport network and reducing traffic congestion.

The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the contract for the construction of the new Latifa bint Hamdan transport corridor. Once completed, it will connect six of the city's key highways, improving accessibility for rapidly growing residential and commercial districts.

New transport corridor to connect the city's main roads

The total length of the new corridor will be 12 kilometers.

The project will connect Sheikh Zayed Road with the following highways:

• Al Khail Road;
• Al Meydan Street;
• Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road;
• Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street;
• Emirates Road.

Creating this new route will help redistribute traffic flow between major arteries and increase the capacity of the road network.

Construction is scheduled for completion by the end of 2028

The project includes the construction of modern engineering infrastructure, featuring:

• seven bridges with a total length of 2.3 kilometers;
• eight tunnels with a total length of approximately 900 meters.

Once operational, the transport corridor will be able to handle over 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions, significantly reducing the burden on Sheikh Zayed Road.

Over 130,000 trips daily

According to RTA estimates, more than 130,000 vehicles will use the new road every day.

One of the most notable benefits of the project will be a reduction in travel time between Umm Al Sheif Street and Emirates Road by approximately 18 minutes.

The new infrastructure will also improve transport accessibility for the following areas:

• Nad Al Sheba;
• Al Barari;
• Dubai Hills;
• District One;
• Mohammed bin Rashid Gardens;
• Living Legends;
• Majan;
• Global Village.

Cycling infrastructure development

The project includes not only the construction of roads but also the development of alternative urban mobility.

A 12.5-kilometer cycling path will be built along the new transport corridor, connecting the Al Qudra and Jumeirah districts.

According to RTA estimates, approximately 650,000 residents and visitors to the emirate will be able to use the new infrastructure.

Once completed, travel time along this route will be reduced from approximately 33 to 15 minutes.

Investment in the transport system supports the city's growth

According to Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, the project is part of Dubai's long-term transport infrastructure development strategy.

The primary goal is to ensure efficient traffic flow amidst constant population growth, active development of new districts, and increasing economic activity.

The new transport corridor will improve connectivity between the eastern and western parts of the city, while providing convenient access points for both existing and future residential neighborhoods.
